How Much is Microneedling?

Skincare · August 29, 2019

There seems to be an ever-increasing number of cosmetic procedures now available. This is, of course, driven by our culture of wanting to maintain a youthful appearance for as long as possible. While microneedling has been practiced since 1995, it has become increasingly popular in the last 3 to 5 years.

Microneedling can be a great option for anyone who wants to improve the radiance of their skin. That improvement can mean increasing hair growth, boosting collagen or minimizing the appearance of scars. Before you decide on microneedling, however, you might be wondering ‘how much is microneedling?’

What is Microneedling?

person learning how much is microneedlingMicroneedling involves putting very short, small needles into the skin to help rejuvenate it. The most popular form of microneedling, and also the least expensive, uses a device called a dermaroller. Dermarollers are comprised of needles with diameters that range from 0.5 to 2.5 millimeters.

The punctures that are made by the needles are very tiny, essentially making them pin-pricks. In addition, their depth is only surface-level.

Benefits of Microneedling

There are many reasons why microneedling has grown in popularity in the last few years. Here is a list of several microneedling benefits that have contributed to its popularity:

Fast Results

One of the top benefits of microneedling is that its results are nearly immediate. The skin is often pinker and more luminous for a few weeks following treatment. The procedure plumps up the skin, and the inflammation from the treatment creates the appearance of swelling.

In addition, there is improvement that takes place over time. Studies have shown that having four monthly sessions of microneedling can help produce up to a 400% increase in elastin and collagen just six months after treatment is completed.

Hair Growth

Microneedling can help activate hair growth by stimulating hair follicles that were previously dormant.

Reduces Cellulite

Microneedling can help improve the appearance of sagging skin, crepe-like lines and cellulite. This is mostly achievable through the use of a new microneedling device being used.

Factors that Impact Price

With that said, the procedure costs just a fraction of a surgical cosmetic treatment. On average, microneedling can set you back anywhere from $200 to $700 each session. So, how much is microneedling when you take into account different factors?

There are some general factors that can impact the overall cost of your microneedling procedures. These include where you live, the provider you choose and whether you need to take time off from work. Keep in mind that cost is totally out-of-pocket. Given that microneedling is a cosmetic procedure, it is not covered by insurance.

There are some specific factors that impact the overall price of treatment as well.

Number of sessions

In most instances, you need to have a total of 4 to 6 sessions to achieve your desired look. The number of sessions required depends on your age and the overall condition of your skin. For some, the cost is just $200 per session. For others, it can increase to $700 or more.

Overall Surface Area

In general, the overall surface and type of area being treated will impact the cost. A bigger surface area means more product used and more time spent. This often translates to a bigger overall cost.

Face treatments are usually the least expensive and can cost an average of $300 per session, but again this is an average that does not account for age, skin condition and/or location.

Topical Serums

You can add some topical serums to your microneedling procedure which will increase the cost. These serums, an example of which is hyaluronic acid, can help significantly diminish the appearance of wrinkles. A procedure that includes a serum can often start around $250 a session.

Using Radiofrequency
