Description

Botox is an FDA-approved cosmetic treatment that is used to relax facial lines in order to eliminate wrinkles. By relaxing the facial muscles to reduce excess movements in the face, Botox prevents new lines from forming, leaving your skin smoother and younger looking. As it is non-surgical and non-invasive, the effects of Botox will last 3-4 months. Botox injections block muscle contractions beneath the skin to stop wrinkles from forming. These injections can also reduce clenching in jaw muscles to alleviate migraines and similar headaches. You will look years younger without these contractions in your facial muscles.

Why Botox?

Adults who experience contractions of facial muscles, causing facial wrinkles or even headaches, can significantly benefit from a Botox procedure. For those who suffer from constant migraines, Botox can be used to correct bruxism and clenching of the jaw, preventing further pain. The muscle corrections generally last 3-4 months, but can last up to 6 months in some cases. At Elume Medspa, we treat almost all areas of the face, especially the forehead, glabella (between the eyes), and crow’s feet (around the eyes).

Botox Procedure

During your office visit, we will determine how many units of Botox you will need. When the amount is determined, the areas in and around the injection sites will be iced. We will then administer injections to the areas where Botox is needed. Depending on the targeted facial muscles as well as how many injections are required, the procedure should take up to 15 minutes in total to complete.

After treatment, you may notice slight swelling and redness at the injection site. The bump may look similar to a mosquito bite, but should resolve within 5 to 10 minutes. You should see the results of the botox procedure within 7 to 14 days. The wrinkles will begin to resolve, as well as any muscle contractions you experienced prior to injections. Elume Medspa offers free consultations so that you can be fully aware of how much Botox you will require as well as the cost of such before your procedure begins.

Benefits And Risks

Botox is a non-surgical procedure that is very likely to produce expected results. Since it is non-invasive, the procedure is quick and painless and is proven to make your skin look younger than ever. Elimination of fine lines and wrinkles will reduce signs of aging to produce a healthy glow.

While small doses of Botox are deemed harmless, it still is considered a toxin. Frequent and heavy Botox injections are not recommended as they can pose unhealthy side effects. When administered by a trained professional, these side effects are less likely to occur. Skin or muscle irritation may be common after injection, but are more than likely to resolve on their own. Since everyone’s health and skin history is different, the benefits and risks of Botox will vary.

Who Should Avoid Botox Procedures?

Those with active skin conditions such as deep scars, keloids, lesions, herpes, warts, stage 3 or 4 acne, or other conditions such as an autoimmune disorder or untreated diabetes, should not undergo a Botox procedure. Women who are pregnant should also avoid any Botox injections. Patients who have recently underwent a chemical peel, collagen injection, or any similar skin procedure in the target areas should wait at least two to three weeks before a Botox treatment. Those who are considering a Botox procedure should also avoid waxing and tanning in the weeks leading up to the procedure. Call or contact Elume Medspa today for a free consultation to determine whether or not you are eligible for Botox injections, as well as to discuss and schedule your next Botox procedure.
