Cosmetic Tattooing
About the treatment
Ombre powder brows at Elume Medspa in Fairfax, Virginia are a semi-permanent shading technique that gives brows a soft, powdered finish, performed by our licensed clinical team.
Ombre powder brows are a form of semi-permanent tattooing that uses a specialized shading technique to create a gradient effect on the eyebrows. The result is a soft, powdery finish that mimics the appearance of makeup, with lighter shading at the front of the brows that gradually transitions to a more defined, darker tail. This technique is perfect for achieving a polished look while maintaining a natural aesthetic.
The treatment
While ombre powder brows and powder brows are often used interchangeably, they refer to the same technique.
Both create a soft, shaded effect using a tattooing method that deposits pigment into the skin. This technique differs from microblading, which uses hair-like strokes to mimic the appearance of individual brow hairs.

Your visit
During the initial consultation, your artist will discuss your goals, assess your natural brow shape, and determine the ideal shade and style for your face.
This is an opportunity to ask any questions and collaborate on the design that best suits your preferences.
All cosmetic tattooing services at Elume Medspa are performed by our licensed clinical team.
On the day of your appointment, your brows will be cleaned and prepped to ensure a sterile environment. Your artist will map out your brows, carefully measuring and shaping them to achieve symmetry and balance.
Once the design is approved, a topical numbing cream will be applied to enhance your comfort during the procedure.
Using a specialized tattoo machine, your artist will deposit pigment into the skin using a stippling technique. This creates the signature gradient effect, with lighter shading at the front and a more defined finish at the tail.
The process typically takes 2–3 hours, depending on the complexity of the design. Throughout the session, your artist will ensure precision and make adjustments as needed to achieve the desired result.
After the procedure, you may experience mild redness or swelling, which typically subsides within a day or two. Your artist will provide detailed aftercare instructions, including how to care for your brows during the healing process.
Over the next few weeks, the pigment will settle, and your brows will achieve their final, natural look. A touch-up appointment may be scheduled 4–6 weeks later to perfect the results.

Ombre Powder Brows typically last 1–3 years, depending on factors such as your skin type, lifestyle, and aftercare. Regular touch-ups can help maintain their appearance over time.
It depends on your preferences and skin type. Ombre Powder Brows offer a soft, makeup-like finish and tend to heal more evenly on oily or combination skin. Microblading creates hair-like strokes for a more natural, textured look but may not last as long or be as suitable for certain skin types.
Most patients find Ombre Powder Brows tattooing to be tolerable. A topical numbing cream is applied before the procedure to minimize discomfort. You may feel a slight scratching sensation, but the process is designed to be as comfortable as possible.
