Laser hair removal can eliminate hair follicles on the skin to reduce the production of hair in areas such as the face, chest, back, arms, armpits and legs.
Book Laser Hair Removal TreatmentLaser hair removal is an FDA-approved, non-surgical procedure that removes hair follicles on the skin. By eliminating the hair in your current growth cycle, laser hair removal will guarantee six months to a year of hair reduction in the desired treatment area. We use the non-invasive SCITON BroadBand Light (BBL)™ laser to treat men and women in all areas of the body. The procedure will help you look younger and leave your skin free of unwanted hair, without increasing the risk of skin lesions or tears.
Why Laser Hair Removal?
Individuals who have unwanted hair on their skin can significantly benefit from laser hair removal. The procedure can be used to treat the face, chest, back, arms, armpits, and legs. At Elume Medspa, you can also perform full body procedures, meaning you can be almost completely free of hair after treatment. The BBL™ procedure will work for individuals with acne and will not inflame it or cause the acne to scar.
Laser Hair Removal Procedure
The areas to be treated with laser hair removal should be shaved the night prior to avoid irritation. A gel will be applied to your skin and we will gently place the BBL™ handpiece on your skin. The handpiece will emit gentle pulses of light to penetrate the skin and destroy hair follicles. While the pulses may feel like small pinches on the skin, it does not bother most clients who receive the treatment. Topical numbing cream or icing can be offered for more sensitive areas.
Depending on whether you choose to treat a small area or wish to receive a full body treatment, the procedure can take anywhere between 30 minutes to 2 hours. You may experience bruising, soreness, or inflammation from the laser hair removal - we will provide instructions on how to limit or reduce these post-treatment. Avoid significant sun exposure at least 14 days prior to and after treatment.
Benefits And Disadvantages
Laser hair removal has been approved as safe by the FDA, meaning there are no long-term risks of receiving treatment. The results of the procedure are seen almost immediately, and the full effects should only take a week to notice. The BBL™ handpiece will treat any part of the body, regardless of the amount of hair that exists. For individuals with healthy skin, laser hair removal will not increase the chance of skin tears or lesions. The procedure is mostly painless, but a topical numbing cream can be applied before treatment upon request to maximize comfort.
Unfortunately, no technology has yet been developed to permanently remove hair. While laser hair removal is an ideal solution for individuals who wish to have smooth skin, you may require treatment every 1 to 2 months for up to eight procedures in order to maximize reduction. Small rashes, hives, blisters, or pimples may develop a few days after treatment, but should disappear at a normal rate. Individuals may also experience temporary changes in skin pigmentation following treatment.
Who Should Avoid Laser Hair Removal?
Individuals with active skin conditions such as deep scars, keloids, lesions, herpes, warts, or other conditions such as an autoimmune disorder or untreated diabetes, should not undergo a laser hair removal procedure. To avoid any unforeseen complications, women who are pregnant or breastfeeding may not be treated with laser. Patients who have recently undergone a chemical peel, dermal filler injection, or any similar skin procedure should wait at least two to three weeks before receiving laser hair removal in the same area. Those who are considering laser hair removal should also avoid waxing, plucking, and tanning at least two to three weeks prior to the procedure. Call or contact Elume Medspa today for a free consultation to determine whether or not you are eligible for laser hair removal, as well as to discuss and schedule your next procedure.
