Description
LATISSE® is a prescription treatment for hypotrichosis, the medical term for eyelashes that are inadequate, thin or sparse. It is the only FDA approved treatment of its kind, and its active ingredient is bimatoprost.
Applied once a day along the upper lash line, LATISSE® works by extending the growth phase of the lash cycle. Most people begin to see a difference at around 8 weeks, with full results between 12 and 16 weeks. After that initial course, many patients move to a reduced maintenance schedule of a few applications per week. Results depend on continued use. If you stop, lashes gradually return to the way they looked before you started.
What we carry
We stock two sizes at our Fairfax clinic. The 3 ml bottle lasts roughly 45 days of nightly use, and the 5 ml bottle lasts up to 90 days. Each kit includes sterile single-use applicators, which are worth using as directed: applying with anything else, or applying to the lower lash line, is the most common reason people see uneven results or irritation.
Why LATISSE® is not sold in our online store
LATISSE® is a prescription medication, so it cannot be added to a cart and shipped the way our skincare can. It has to be prescribed by a licensed provider after a short consultation. That consultation is not a formality. Bimatoprost belongs to a class of medication originally developed for glaucoma, so we review your eye health first, including any history of glaucoma, ocular hypertension, current eye drops, recent eye surgery or active eye infection.
We also go over the side effects worth knowing about before you commit to a course, including eyelid skin darkening, eye redness and itching, and the rare possibility of increased brown pigmentation of the iris, which may be permanent. Most people tolerate LATISSE® well. You should still hear the full picture from a provider rather than from a product page.
