The Pros & Cons Of ‘Botox in a Bottle’

Topical · August 7, 2019

Many of us are looking for a quick fix to help us age a little more gracefully. The latest craze is ‘Botox in a bottle’ which might sound appealing if you are looking for an easy way to eliminate those wrinkles, laugh lines and crow’s feet. The popularity of Botox is easy to understand.

The procedure (or series of procedures) is effective, fast, and non-surgical. Given its demand, there are now more products than ever that claim to offer similar results as Botox injections, without the injections. But just how effective are ‘Botox in a Bottle’ products? Read on to find out.

What Is ‘Botox in a bottle’?

person using botox in a bottle after reading the pros and consIn terms of eliminating existing wrinkles and preventing the occurrence of new ones, getting Botox injections seems to be the most popular option. However, there are now new products on the market that are being advertised as a means to achieve similar results without having to receive injections.

These liquid ‘Botox in a bottle’ alternatives are topical solutions that usually involve ingredients such as elastin fibers and collagen. Others have peptides, retinoids and ingredients that help to support skin cell renewal and have hydrating properties. These products claim to help fill-in creases and iron out wrinkles without having to undergo any procedure with needles.

Pros Of ‘Botox in a bottle’

There are several pros to these liquid alternatives, including:

No Needles

What does Botox feel like? Well, perhaps the biggest pro of liquid Botox products, is that you do not have to subject yourself to any needles. For anyone who has a fear of needles or injections, a liquid Botox product can help you get some level of results without having to endure any needles.

Low Cost

Receiving regular Botox injections can be quite costly over the long term and once you start to receive the service, you will likely want to continue. You can find topical products on the market for as little as $20. However, most of the popular ones will cost anywhere from $60 to $100 for one bottle.

Limited Risk

woman receiving botox injectionsBotox injections do come with some risks and the procedure is not appropriate for everyone. While Botox is considered mostly harmless, it is still a toxin and if you receive too much, it can lead to some side effects. For the most part, those side effects include muscle and skin irritation.

Important Note
Botox injections are not appropriate for everyone so if you cannot receive the treatment in a traditional way, liquid versions might be a good option, depending on your condition. Those who should stay away from traditional Botox injections include anyone with herpes, lesions, deep scarring, untreated diabetes, pregnant or breastfeeding or has an autoimmune disorder.

Convenience

You can purchase a bottle of any of these liquid products at your local makeup store or online, which can be quite convenient for most. And it may be more convenient than having to schedule your appointment for injections. These bottles are just so easily accessible and do not require a lot of prep time, whereas you may have to wait longer than you would like to get in for your injections.

Cons Of ‘Botox in a bottle’

While it can seem really enticing to try out a new product, particularly one that will not require you to get any injections and will cost you a lot less money, there may be reason why ‘Botox in a bottle’ products are cheaper. Overall, they just do not offer the same results.

Slower Results

This could also mean buying more than one bottle before seeing any significant change. With traditional Botox injections, you can expect to see dramatic results in just 7 to 14 days. Those results include wrinkles resolving and limited muscle contractions.

Subtler Results & No Added Benefits

You simply do not get the same results out of a bottle as you do with injections. You also will not get the other benefits of Botox. For example, those with chronic migraines often benefit from Botox injections. But not so with their liquid alternatives.

Results Do Not Last As Long

With ‘Botox in a bottle’ alternatives, the results just do not last as long. In addition, these products are not likely to get you many results at all if you have particularly deep lines or wrinkles. With Botox injections, the effects tend to last 3 to 4 months (varies based on units of Botox received). Depending on your particular wrinkles, you can even see them last up to 6 months in some cases.

Deciding On Botox Treatments

Despite the pros of using liquid products, it will be hard to achieve the same results you would see with traditional Botox injections. And considering how much you have to spend on ‘liquid botox’ to get results, it’s just not worth it.
